New backers have been unveiled to ensure the continued success of the annual Ythan Challenge event.
Ellon firm R&R Corrosion is the main sponsor for the popular obstacle race, which starts at the Meadows Sports Centre and leads along the River Ythan to the Esslemont Estate.
Local causes benefit from money raised through the event, with £11,000 shared among organisations last year.
John Rae, owner and one of the directors of R&R Corrosion, said: “We’ve been based in Ellon since 2002 and I’m also part of the Ythan Amateur Swimming Club.
“Last year the Ythan Challenge asked for volunteers to help at the race and the club got involved and volunteered.
“We received some funding afterwards so I have seen how much it can help groups.
“Organisers told us that they had lost one of their main sponsors so it was something we wanted to do to help them as all the money stays within the local community.”
Alison Chalmers, chairwoman of the R&R Corrosion Ythan Challenge, added: “Everyone is working hard and looking forward to this year’s challenge.
“The event is not only fantastic fun, but raises thousands of pounds for local causes every year. This year we’re delighted to have an Ellon company as our main sponsor.”
The R&R Corrosion Ythan Challenge takes place on Sunday, June 24.
