Ellon Bowling Club stalwart Muriel Burgess enjoyed a special celebration for her 90th birthday.
Ladies section members laid on a party for her at the club last Wednesday.
And Muriel, who joined in 1963, was delighted with her ‘present’ on traditional ladies’ afternoon.
One of the members, Tessa Donaghy, discovered it was Muriel’s birthday and suggested organising a special party for her.
Club vice-president Kathleen Gordon said: “It would have been lovely if Muriel had been 90 last year because it was the club’s centenary but we just thought that not many clubs have a 90-year-old member, so we decided to have a party for her.”
Muriel is an honorary life member of the Ellon club and son Anthony sponsors one of the competitions.
She said: “It was so nice of everyone to have a party for me. I have been looking forward to it.”
Kathleen, who will become the club’s first lady president next year, explained that Muriel had been a staunch supporter of activities over the years, both on and off the green.
She added: “She does not play any more but still takes an interest in what’s going on.
“Muriel was a very active member of the club and served on the committee.”
