Two men remain in a critical condition following a serious road accident on the B9170 Oldmeldrum - Inverurie road on Wednesday evening.
The accident, which happened near Barravale at around 8.20pm, involved two vehicles - a Toyota Celica and a Honda Civic. Retained Grampian Fire and Rescue crews from Oldmeldrum and Inverurie were called to the scene.
Paramedics treated one casualty at the scene while the other was cut free from the vehicle. He was released and in the care of paramedics by 9.20pm. Both drivers were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
One of the drivers involved in the accident is Martin Coutts, a Mathematics teacher at Meldrum Academy. The former trainee fingerprint officer, who graduated from Paisley University with a BSc in Applied Maths and Computing, began teaching in Aberdeenshire in 2006, first at Peterhead Academy, before moving to Meldrum Academy in 2008.
