A local councillor has spoken out following the arrival of an unauthorised camp of Travellers on the Ellon Academy Community Campus.
Ellon and District councllor, Gillian Owen, said: “I am really disappointed that once again the Travellers have targeted our magnificent Academy Campus, which is a totally inappropriate place for them to be.
“Action must be taken and quickly and then measures need to be put in place to stop this type of incursion anywhere on the Campus site now and in the future.
“At the risk of making an unpopular comment – if Aberdeenshire Council had a Transit site they would not be allowed to set up unauthorised camps as the Police would have to move them on.”
Cllr Owen added: “I have sent emails to Aberdeenshire Council Officers and to the Police asking for them to act.
“Just because the Academy is on holiday doesn’t mean to say that the Community facilities are not being used extensively by families and people will be put off by the unauthorised camp.
“I would also make a plea to residents please be careful when people knock on your door and ask if you need any gardening done.
“You can see in my picture that the truck is full of garden waste and where do you think that will end up?”
