The town of Ellon said a fond farewell to one of its best known characters, and most respected individuals at a Service in Ellon Parish Church on Monday.
Peter Davidson, a long-time head janitor at Ellon Academy was given an emotional send off by family and friends, many of them from the McDonald Golf Club where the 85-year-old had played since his childhood.
Peter was held in great affection by all those who passed through the town’s principal place of learning.
Similarly he was fondly recalled at the McDonald Golf Club where he served as a committee member for a number of years, as did his late wife Ethel.
The couple were known for strictly adhering to the rules of the game while brooking no nonsense from those who flaunted the ettiquette of the sport, they were recalled with great fondness by members who will never see their likes again.
Peter and Ethel were a charming, engaging couple who would always pass the time with their many associates in the town which is a sadder place since their passing.
Six former captains of the McDonald Club were present at his funeral which showed the esteem in which Peter was held in at the club.
Ellon Academy staff both past and present was also well represented, a clear indication of how much his service in the community was appreciated.
Peter is survived by his sister Bunty and daughter Arlene and her husband Danny, and grandchildren Sean, Leah and Rory.
