A musical evening held in Udny Green in memory of a baby boy who died from a rare heart and lung condition has raised £2600.

Axel Christie passed away in May only weeks old from Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).

His parents, Claire and Merv, wanted to raise awareness of the condition and the small charity that helped them so much after their baby’s death.

Claire said she was moved by the generosity of all the people who came to the evening of classical chorus music, which was held at Udny Green Hall earlier this month.

She added: “I was overwhelmed by the response we had and the singers and volunteers who helped make the event happen.

“I am extremely happy we have raised awareness of CDH and raised an amazing amount of money to help the charity a step closer to reaching their first £250,000.”

Axel, whose family live in Udny Green, was born with the condition CDH, which affects the heart and lungs. He spent his short life at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

The concert raised £2,600, which will go to CDH UK.

Inverurie musician Leighann Esselmont performed a special song called ‘Axel’s Song of Hope’ at the event.
