Inverurie Business Association held their Annual General Meeting on Thursday, April 30, at Inverurie Locos Social Club on Harlaw Road, Inverurie.

Following the election of the committee, the Chairman’s Report was read by Chairman, Jackie Allen giving an overview of all the activity and events undertaken by the IBA over the past year. The IBA were delighted to welcome their Guest Speaker, the Rt Hon David Mundell, and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland since 2010.

With the forthcoming referendum, on September 18, Mr Mundell’s presentation addressed the issues surrounding independence and his overview of the impact independence would mean for businesses here in the North East of Scotland.

A supporter of the Better Together Campaign, Mr Mundell, a previous MSP, worked as a solicitor in private practice before joining BT as group legal adviser for Scotland in 1991, rising to become BT Scotland’s head of national affairs. Mr. Mundell’s seat is Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale where he is well known as a community campaigner in his constituency, speaking out on many issues including the regeneration of rural areas, road improvements, more affordable housing, cuts in rural services and is against large-scale wind farm developments.
