Ythan CCs Karolyn Brown produced the performance of the year for a club member last weekend with a brilliant bronze in her age group at the European Duathlon Championships in Alcobendes, Spain.
The result, which involved Brown recovering from a mechanical problem and a crash, was the latest in a string of impressive performances in 2015 and a reward for a hard winter of training on and off the bike.
At home in Ellon and in slightly cooler conditions, the club promoted its annual hilly time trial taking in the roads through Auchnagatt, Raxton Hill and Ardlethen.
First place went to David Anderson (Granite City RT) followed by Lee Smith (Aberdeen Wheelers) while Ythan’s Colin Duncan took the prize for the fastest ride on a bike that was non aero or as is often described “Old Skool”.
Peterhead youth rider Callum Cooper was in Dalbeattie at round two of the Scottish XC MTB Series on what is considered the most technical circuit of the series at the Seven Stanes trails. He again rode well and finished fifth in the U14 category.
At Balmoral, Carol Middleton was crowned the Supervet Ladies Champion at the inaugural Run Balmoral Duathlon held around the grounds of the Royal estate while Alford’s Lewis Goodlad was in action on the track at Caird Park in Dundee where he was placed ninth overall in the Scottish Power Youth Omnium.
