Ellon Thistle 4 - Cammachmore 1

ELLON Thistle earned their right to play JS XI in the final of the Castle Rovers Cup, after defeating visitors Cammachmore 4-1 after a desperate ‘extra’ time scramble for goals at The Meadows in Saturday’s match.

Thistle took a lead early on in the match. Keith Reid was felled in the box by the Cammachmore keeper, with the referee awarding the home side a penalty. Bruce Alexander stepped up to the mark, and slotted home the spot kick to make the score one-nill to Thistle.

The visitors struck back, however, and equalised with half an hour to play in the second half. Nonetheless, by that stage, most of the play was taking place in the Cammachmore half of the pitch.

Thistle failed to get a goal as the game moved into extra time.

However, the goals did come eventually - Bruce Alexander yet again hit his mark from the penalty spot, while Mark Cockburn and Keith Reid also found the net to complete the scoring.

A good result for the Jags, which sees them progress to the final for a home match against JX II.
