This Saturday could very well be the defining game of Ellon RFC 1st XV’s season as they welcome Moray to The Meadows in a top of the table clash.
The Elgin side currently sit top of the league, two points ahead of Ellon but having played one game more.
Both teams come in to the game on the back of a string of good results, with Ellon edging past RAF Lossiemouth last Saturday in an 18-15 win.
Ellon went 10-0 up after 15 minutes only to be 15-13 down after 50 minutes, and won the game with a try four minutes from time.
Ellon 1st XV assistant coach Scott Munro was pleased with the result. He said: “We knew RAF Lossiemouth would be a stern test and we would have to be at the top of our game to come away with any points.
“To come away with the win in a very physical and evenly matched encounter was all the more pleasing.
“Up until now, all we have been concentrating on is the next game each weekend and getting the wins to set us up nicely for the Moray game and making sure everything was in our hands and we didn’t need help from other teams.
“The game on Saturday will obviously be the biggest of our season so far. We try and set up drills at training which put the players under pressure, mentally and physically, however you can never replicate a game between first and second in the league.”
