As most of the recognised first team players had decided to boycott the Turriff Cup semi final, in favour of taking part in the Methlick Sevens last Saturday, it was left to second team skipper Kenny Hutcheson to take the field with an under strength side - only 10 on the day - against 2nd St Ronald at the Duthie Park for the right to meet either Cults or Mannofield in the final.
Ellon didn’t make the best of starts losing their first two wickets in the second over closely followed by another in the next over. So from there on it was always going to be a struggle to set a sizeable total for St Ronald to chase.
Stallard and White did add some respectability to the score with a small partnership of 22 before Stallard was bowled and White stumped at the same score. Ex. Ellon player Bhatti finished off the innings with 3 for 15.

Hede gave Ellon the perfect start at the beginning of the St Ronald reply bowling Amman first ball. They had to wait until the sixth over before they gained further success when White bowled Farouqy with the score at 23 However the fall of this wicket brought the fight back to an end as Bode proceeded to take 21 off the next over to remove any hope Ellon had of pulling off a surprise victory.
Although it wasn’t a great performance by Ellon at least they did not give the opposition a walk over straight onto the final.
Some serious thought needs to be given, however, as to whether Ellon should enter the competition in the future.
