Conor hungry for title

Formartine United have unveiled former Nairn County striker Conor Gethins as their first new signing of the summer.

The 32-year old, who scored and incredible 173 goals in 178 appearances for Nairn, will add to the already impressive fire power in Kris Hunter’s side.

Speaking at a press conference at North Lodge Park, Gethins said his sole aim and ambition was to win the Highland League title for the first time in his career.

He said: “I had probably the five best years of my career at Nairn but coming to Formartine was a no brainer.

“When you look at the players through out the team I can only improve on the goals I have already score.

“If I get a consistent run in the team I would be really disappointed if I didn’t break the 40 mark or even the 50 mark.”

However, Gethins, who finished last season with 31 goals to his name, says finishing as top scorer is not the most important thing to him: “I’m not bothered about finishing as top goal scorer, I just want to win the league.

“This is a club that can really push on, even in the higher leagues.

“I have won every personal achievement I could want but I’ve never won the league title, which is what I really want.”

Gethins, who has twice won Highland League Player of the Year, also said he was looking forward to joining up with his new team mates and fighting for a spot in the starting line up.

“Having this level of competition makes everybody work that bit harder and makes me think that I need to get really really fit.

“If I’m fit then I know I will play and hopefully I can produce something that the fans here have never seen before.

“No disrespect to me ex-team mates a Nairn, they were really good and I would have never won the awards I did without them, but it is a different calibre here.

“You know that with guys like Paul Lawson and Stuart Anderson in behind and Barbour around you there will be chances coming from everywhere.”
