Eddie Biocchi, a remarkably fit 71 year old, stepped down from his coaching duties at Auchterellon Primary School after an emotional presentation at the school earlier this week.

Eddie’s commitment to over 700 youngsters in his time at the club as manager/coach was underlined by Gordon Lawrence, one of the club’s old boys of the year 1979 who said: ‘’Eddie has been a great stalwart for the club. His approach to coaching was unique and always about having fun.

“He will be greatly missed at the club, especially at a time when football is being taken too seriously at all levels.

“Eddie ensured we enjoyed training and playing games.’’

In a touching address to a large turnout in the well appointed Auchterellon Primary School gymnasium Eddie said: ‘’It has been a most satisfying time for me, and I hope for all the young people who have attended the club, many of them who have gone to all parts of the world and who keep in touch.

“I have ably supported by Jim Patterson and Steve McKessick in recent years, but all good things must come to and end.

“I have family business to attend to, including grand children in Edinburgh and Chicago.’’

Eddie will continue to keep fit and participate in walking football at the Meadows where he can keep abreast of the game at local and international with his friends, many of them experts on the beautiful game.

The retired civil engineer will also try to improve his golf and garden, and taking his wife Margaret away on holiday.

Next season the club will be managed by Steve McKessick who has been right hand man to Eddie for the last 12 years, carrying the good wishes of the retiring coach/ manager.

He said: ‘’I just hope he gets the same personal satisfaction as I have enjoyed.’’
