Ellon United maintained their league challenge with a 4 – 0 home win against Cruden Bay at The Meadows last weekend.
Two goals from Callum Tremaine plus singles from Kevin Anderson and Lenny Johnson gave United a four goal lead at the interval.
The visitors looked pretty lively up front in spells but were unable to cash in thanks to a combination of Ellon’s defensive efforts and two particularly fine stops from keeper Morgan Cook, including a first half penalty save.
Cruden Bay found themselves reduced to nine men in a mad two minute spell midway through the second half and with their four goal cushion United lost their first half intensity although they still managed to create plenty of opportunities.
Sunmnybank kept up the pressure on United by beating Fraseburgh United 2 – 0 so that the Heathryfold side remain six points behind United but with three games remaining with United having two games left.
Sunnybank still have a slightly better goal difference which has now been reduced to a two goal advantage.
East End are still mathematically in the frame with the two teams having yet to face each other so something will have to give.
United face a completely different challenge next weekend when they visit Banks o` Dee for their quarter final tie in The Dominos Pizza Cup.
The Spain Park side are currently in top spot in the Super League with games in hand and their only regional defeat this season was at the hands of Fraserburgh United.
Saturday also sees important league games affecting United with Sunnybank facing Longside and East End against Fraserburgh United.
