Ellon academy U13’s and U14’s School Football Teams both recorded historic wins recently as the boys in Maroon managed a ‘double double’.

The teams both beat Fraserburgh Academy to win their respective leagues before going on to defeat The Nicholson Institute from Stornoway in thrilling finals in the North of Scotland Cup at Dingwall.

Not only was this the first time Ellon have won the title at Junior level, it is the first time Ellon Academy have won a league title since the present records began in 1992, let alone two.

This year has been a year of successes for both the junior boys sides as the U13’s secured new strip sponsors from Burns Coaches in Tarves and the U14’s were sponsored by Ellon Plant Hire Ltd.

Clad in their very distinguishable colours they look forward to defending their titles next year.

U13’s coach, Graham Wilson said: “I have been extremely proud of the dedication, commitment and team spirit that the U13’s have displayed this season in training and in competition.

“Special thanks has to go to my co-coach Cameron Grant, who as a senior pupil, has displayed huge potential and leadership skills.

“It’s fair to say the boys learn their craft at the respective clubs they play at, and it is clear to see the talent that is in the squad.”

U14’s coach, Paul MacBeath said:“This season has been fantastic, building on the strong groundwork the boys put in last year.

“Winning the double – the league for the first time ever in the school’s history for this age group, and the North of Scotland cup for the first time since 1991 - not only showed that there is some amazing talent in the squad, but more importantly, great character within every single one of them to ensure we kept on winning, even when the odds were against us.

“Talent may have won us individual games, but it was the determination, commitment and teamwork that won us the trophies.

“The future is bright with this group of boys.”
