Ellon United`s run of poor results continued on Saturday when they lost 5-1 to Deveronside at Banff.

With no central defenders available, United were fortunately able to call on former Culter player Martin Crisp who lined up alongside Paul Leahy at the heart of the defence, but even this had to change when Leahy was forced off just before the interval.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start and their confidence, which must have been fragile at the kick-off, was shattered in the first six minutes.

With less than two minutes gone United were caught out when instead of clearing their lines they lost possession trying to play the ball out and presented Flett with the opener.

Ellon found themselves two goals down only four minutes later when Deveronside were awarded a penalty and Blackhall netted his first of the afternoon from the spot.

United managed to stem the tide without posing any real threat but they missed a great chance to pull a goal back when Lenny Johnson met a cross only to glance his header wide.

Deveronside were fortunate to escape when keeper Sim completely miskicked his attempt to clear a passback but the home side made Ellon pay around eight minutes later when Blackhall waltzed through with defenders slipping everywhere to coolly add his second.

Callum Tremaine replaced Leahy just before the break with Chris Craib stepping back to a defensive role.

Dev Kennedy Colbert came on for Andy Smith at the start of the second half. United at least had some pace and directness up front now and should have scored within three minutes of the restart but Andy Anderson fired wide from close in.

Five minutes later Sim acrobatically tipped an Anderson shot over the bar.

The misery mounted for United in the 64th minute when a mix-up at the back led to to a short passback with Flett taking advantage to nip in and tap the ball into the empty net.

Sim saved a shot from Scott McLeod in the 74th minute but there was nothing he could do two minutes later when a shot from the striker flew into the top corner.

McLeod then saw a good effort cannon off one of his own players with United passing up several chances to reduce the deficit before Blackhall showed them the way again when he skipped through to complete his hat-trick.
