Formartine United have announced their first fundraising event of the New Year in the form of their popular annual Sportsmans Dinner..
The event will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Dyce, on Saturday, February 21.
Host for the evening will be Press and Journal Highland League correspondent Dave Edwards who will be in the company of special guest speaker Dean Saunders and comedian Les Peters.
With a career spanning almost two decades, Dean Saunders, has a host of tales from his illustrious career, quickly making him one of the most sought after football speakers on the after dinner speaker circuit.
A legendary goal scorer, Saunders, began his career at his home town club of Swansea City before enjoying brief spells at Brighton and then Oxford United.
In 1988 Oxford sold Saunders to Derby County for £1m.
Three years (and 42 goals) later Saunders moved to Liverpool, who paid a then English record fee of £2.9 million to make him Ian Rush’s new strike-partner following the departures of David Speedie and Peter Beardsley.
Saunders is undoubtedly one of the Welsh national team’s most prolific goal scorers.
He made his international debut aged 21 in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland in 1986, the first of 75 caps.
He scored 22 international goals, putting him fourth on the all-time Wales list behind Ian Rush, Ivor Allchurch and Trevor Ford.
His playing career saw Saunders also see service with Aston Villa, Galatasaray, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Benfica and Bradford City before moving into management with Wreham, Doncaster Rovers and Wolves.
As a football speaker, Dean brings his career to life, giving audience members an insight into the world of professional football.
With more than 25 years’ experience as a writer both in Britain and America, Les Peters will dig deep into his notebooks to uncover a selection of stories – mostly true and all hilarious – to share with you.
A regular at Sportsmans’ Dinners at the likes of Old Trafford, Ibrox, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers, golf, football, rugby, cricket and bowling clubs throughout the length and breadth of the UK can all testify to the value and enjoyment of Les Peters.
If you would like to join this popular event, individual tickets are on sale for £66.
Meanwhile group bookings of ten guests are available at £600 per table.
