Formartine United defeated Ellon United 2-1 in a final friendly before the season gets under way this weekend.

Manager Steve Paterson continued the recent pattern of shuffling his pack and giving trialists a run out.

The Meadows club, who also open their campaign on Saturday, went behind in the 13th minute when Napier’s fierce shot was parried by Buckley but the forward pounced to net the rebound.

Ellon hit back as half time approached. MacLeod squared the ball into the path of Leahy who beat Calder from the edge of the box.

Shortly before the interval the Highland League side were back in front when McKeown picked up the ball from a corner and sent it beyond the diving Buckley.

Formartine face a tricky opening fixture at Nairn on Saturday, while Ellon have a home cup game against Hall Russell United.
