Formartine’s season still in cold storage

Formartine United are still waiting to play their first game of 2015 after their league fixture at Deveronvale on Saturday was postponed.

The Banff pitch was waterlogged and only two matches managed to beat the weather.

Keith against Buckie Thistle was also called off as Kynoch Park was waterlogged, while Rothes versus Wick Academy was frozen off and Strathspey Thistle’s home game against Lossiemouth fell victim to a snowbound surface.

Elsewhere, Fraserburgh against Clach at Bellslea was postponed due to high winds.

In the two games which went ahead, Turriff United went to the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Huntly at The Haughs.

Cove Rangers maintained their recent good form with a 3-2 home victory over Inverurie Locos.

Formartine will be pinning their hopes on finally resuming their season on Saturday when they visit Buckie Thistle in the first round of the Breedon Aggregates Highland League Cup.

Meanwhile, Ellon United`s lengthy lay off was extended at the weekend when their scheduled match at Maud became one of the many minor fixtures which fell foul of the weather.

United hope to get back to action on Saturday with the visit to The Meadows of Banchory St Ternan.

The match kicks off at 2pm.

All local juvenile matches on Saturday were also postponed.
