Colony Park Juniors produced a hard fought 1-0 win over Longside to remain level on points at the top of the PMAC group Div 1 East with Bridge of Don Thistle, who have a two goal superior goal difference.
The sides meet this weekend in the league.
On a fine afternoon at Colony Park in front of a decent crowd, the early exchanges were even with little goalmouth action until a quarter of an hour into the match when Longside conceded a corner from which the ball eventually fell to Strachan whose shot was saved by the Longside keeper. A minute Later Adam Maitland had a shot on target saved with the keeper turning it for a corner which the Longside defence was able to clear. In 28 minutes Park had their best opportunity to take the lead when a great low cross from the right by Bobby Maitland just eluded Brown inside the six yard box. Colony Park continued to be the more offensive side forcing more corners which the Longside defence were able to clear as well as chances for Strachan and Mess. At the interval the score remained goalless.
At the start of the second half Longside had a great opportunity to take the lead but the shot from close range went over the Colony crossbar. As if to compound the miss for Longside, Colony Park immediately went up the field and took the lead in the 48th minute. The ball came to Adam MAITLAND on the edge of the penalty area and he struck a tremendous shot into the top corner of the net.
A couple of minutes later Strachan had a shot turned for a corner by the Longside keeper. Colony almost added a second in 53 minutes when a Bobby Maitland header looked to have crossed the line but despite the strong appeals the referee was adamant the ball was cleared off the line. The ball came out to Strachan whose shot was just wide of the Longside net.
Colony continued to press for a second goal forcing their ninth corner on 64 minutes while Adam Maitland and Douglas had efforts on goal. Park conceded their first corner on 70 minutes when Marwick brought off a tremendous save from a goal bound shot. In 75 minutes Ness and Dorrat replaced Douglas and Bonarius for Colony Park. There was little action through to the end of the match with Peden replacing Adam Maitland in time added. Colony Park continued their undefeated run for the eighth match in a row in their challenge for the league title.
