With virtually a full team of first team players out injured, Inverurie Locos had the odds stacked against them facing rampant champions Brora who went into the game having only dropped four points the whole season.
However the script was ripped up as the underdogs more than matched their opponents who had new signing from Formartine United, ex-captain Craig McKeown on board, it took a solitary Brora goal six minutes from time to separate the sides.
There were few chances in a first half where Locos, with co manager Scott Buchan at 39 starting the game, contained the attacks of a team containing 38 year old goal scorer Steven Mackay.
The first chance came the visitors way, 16 minutes gone, Martin Laing picking out Martin Bavidge with a precise pass, but the stand in skipper drove wide of Joe Malin’s right post
The first threat from the Cattachs came when centre back Colin Williamson headed over from a Zander Sutherland free kick, then soon after Scott Mathieson made a fine save to foil Martin MacLean.
The away team rode their luck early after the restart when a Sutherland effort came crashing off the crossbar while Scott Graham and Mackay followed up with good efforts but it was almost the Inverurie team in front when debutant McKeown had to make a last ditch tackle to foil Laing. At the other end Dale Gillespie was next to go close but the breakth4rough came with six minutes to go. The ball fell for little winger Andrew GREIG on the edge of the 18-yard box, he cut inside and found the net with a delightful curled shot.
