It was a proud moment for Ellon United president Billy Gordon when he was honoured for his contribution to local football.
Billy, was among dozens of volunteers from across Aberdeenshire, recognised for their ‘selfless spirit’.
He attended a recent reception at the council’s Woodhill House headquarters, hosted by Provost Jill Webster.
Billy, who was nominated by Ellon and District Councillor Gillian Owen, served Ellon United as a player before going on to take on the top job at the 100-year-old club.
He is passionate about the game, and keen to offer youngsters a chance to get involved.
Billy is also an enthusiastic golfer and a member of Ellon’s McDonald Club.
Provost Webster said the volunteers provided a vital role in their communities, with their personal touch ensuring that those who might otherwise feel isolated have the opportunity to get involved in community activities.
Each of the volunteers received a certificate in recognition of their efforts.
