A Jack Strachan double gave Colony Park their second win of the season over PMAC Group Div 1 East League Leaders Buchanhaven Hearts.
The North side, having only dropped three points this season with the sides earlier fixture at Inverurie, would have wanted to kill of their challenge but the win saw Colony close the gap at the top.
Colony Park started well holding possession with some good passing and movement by the players. In seven minutes Roddie picked up a ball just beyond the half way line and put a defence splitting pass through to Jack STRACHAN who finished the move with a shot into the corner of the Buchanhaven net giving Colony Park an early lead.
The Hearts came more into the game and went close on a number of occasions before Sim brought off an excellent save on 15 minutes. A couple of minutes later Strachan made a strong solo run which took him through on goal only for the ball to bobble just as he shot and his strike went over the bar.
In 22 minutes Buchanhaven had their best chance of the match when Ballard ran through on goal, dribbling past Sim and shot at an open goal. However somehow Roddy Mess managed to get back and clear the ball off the line when it appeared more likely that the Hearties would have an equaliser.
The Peterhead team continued to attack and Sim brought off another excellent save in 25 minutes. In what was a good advert for Junior football both teams showed a determination to go forward. In 35 minutes Colony Park added to their lead when Adam Maitland picked up the ball on the left and his low cross reached STRACHAN who placed the ball into the net to give the Inverurie side a two goal advantage.
Three minutes later however Colony went down to ten men when Ness was shown a red card. Tommy Wilson reorganised the team with Davidson moving to left back and they defended well through to the interval with Colony Park leading 2-0.
In 70 minutes Sim was again called into action saving well while a couple of minutes later Buchanhaven had another chance to lower the deficit. With almost ten minutes remaining Buchanhaven should have scored but for a tremendous header from Brown to clear off the line and put the ball out for a corner.
In the dying minutes Colony replaced Roddie putting on Chalmers. With most of the play now in the Colony Park half the defence, lead by Roddy Mess and Bobby Maitland with great support from Peter Douglas and Richard Davidson plus Grant Sim excellent in goal, held firm through to the final whistle giving Colony Park an excellent win against the team who have only dropped points against Colony and riding high at the top of the league.
