Inverurie Locos made the short trip to face Huntly at Christie Park on Saturday on the back of three straight losses and only one win in their previous six outings.
Andy Reid was between the sticks with Scott Mathieson suspended following his sending off in the Deveronvale game. Kieran Adams was back for Ryan Broadhurst with John Maitland replacing the injured Greg Mitchell.
The worst injury crisis in living memory continues to beset the club with the problems continuing pre match, Ryan Broadhurst unable to feature, Daniel Crisp only able to sit on the bench.
Locos started the better of the sides and saw a superb Andy Hunter shot crash off the crossbar. However the home side took the lead against the run of play and it was a counter typical of the recent fortune enjoyed by the visitors.
A Mark LAWSON shot was well off target but took a big deflection which saw the ball spin into the air and land in the Locos net.
The second half didn’t start well either and for the fourth game in a row they were to find themselves two down, Ian CRUICKSHANK netting for Huntly.
The game changer was undoubtedly the introduction of the energetic Marc Young who replaced Dean Donaldson after 55 minutes. Andy Hunter was pushed forward and the side forced a series of corners.
The crucial opening goal came from Jordan LEYDEN and they were quickly level thanks to a smartly taken strike by Martin LAING. The same player could have put his side in front but heroic Huntly defending thwarted him.
Martin Bavidge was fantastic throughout this match and was to be pivotal in the build up to the winner. Bavidge broke down the right, expertly dragging players towards him, before a superb centre was met first time by Marc YOUNG. His shot was crisply struck without breaking his stride, crashing into the Huntly net.
Ryan Keir replaced Leyden with a couple of minutes to go and looked set to net after rounding Fraser Hobday but again home defenders foiled the effort with goal line blocks.
The visitors finished well but this had been anything but easy. There have been higher quality Gordon derbies but both sides deserved plaudits for staging a game that was never dull and played in excellent spirit.
