The Garioch played host to some of the top Kettlebell sportsmen and women from across Scotland and the UK on the Sunday (September 21) at the Garioch Kettlebells Interclub Kettlebell Sport Day held at Garioch Sports Centre.

Competitors from across the country took part in the main competition, a Kettlebell Pentathlon, which consists of five single KB lifts (Cleans, Long Cycle Press, Jerk, Half Snatch and Push Press) each of six minute duration, with three weight categories in the Men’s and Women’s
competition. The Overall Men’s event was won by Garioch’s own Graeme Hay with and outstanding lifting performance and an overall points haul of 1340 points. The Overall Women’s event was won by Garioch’s Alaine Ross who continues to shatter her personal bests and had an overall score of 1071 points. There was also a very strong class winning performance from Garioch’s Vikki Mearns and great performances from the other Garioch team members, some of which were competing for
the first time.

Members of the Scottish Kettlebell National Team gave a superb exhibition of Biathlon and Long Cycle lifting - these world class lifters were mixing it up with 24, 28 and
32kg kettlebells.

Alan Lyon Head Instructor for Garioch KB said, “The whole day went like clockwork which is testament to the excellent organisation by the Garioch KB members. Feedback from the other competitors from Forth Valley, Buckie, Stirling and Edinburgh about the event was extremely positive with everybody having a great day. It was pleasing to see the Garioch winning the overall competitions with two great performances from Graeme and Alaine. We are looking forward to holding another event in 2015 and the sport is continuing to grow strongly in Garioch with a programme of five classes now being offered at Garioch Sports Centre through the Club. We hope more people come along and find out about the fitness benefits Kettlebells bring no matter your age, size, or gender.”
