Kung Fu expert Paul teaches a new generation
A North-east man has turned his passion for the martial arts into a new pursuit.
Paul Leslie moved back home to Newburgh after attending Perth College in 2004 and stumbled across Yee hung ga, a form of Kung Fu, which focuses on the past, yet looks to the future.
Paul, 33, who is a first dan black belt, said: “It was a bit of an accident but I was walking along and noticed a sign advertising the sport and thought I would give it a shot.
“I always had an interest in the Eatern arts but none of them took my fancy before.”
Nine years later and Paul ‘s enthusiasm for the sport has led to him teaching it to others.
He said: “Teaching adults is the easy bit because you can just shout at them but with the children I have to make the classes enjoyable as well.”
It’s been a busy time for the martial arts exponent who recently got married and moved house.
Paul has a two-year-old son and he has high hopes of him following in his footsteps.
He said: “My greatest wish is for him to learn the art.”
Paul offers classes for children aged 7 to 14 at Ellon Academy on Monday evenings from 6pm to 6.45pm, as well as a class for adults at the Meadows Sports Centre on a Friday from 8pm to 9pm.
