Methlick Football Club are gearing up for another season in the Buchan summer welfare league.
The club have been involved with the association for more than 40 years now and are hoping for some positive results on the pitch after a lot of hard work off the pitch in the past year.
“It’s been quite a year for our club” club secretary Graeme Kidd told the Ellon Times.
“There have been major works carried out on the football pitch in Methlick, which we are hopeful will see the pitch become one of the most envied in the area.”
“The pitch has been levelled and re-laid as part of a regeneration plan for the entire playing fields. The works have been spoken about for some time, so it is fantastic to see the hard work of so many people in the community come to fruition. Hopefully we will be able to play our first game on the new pitch before the end of this season.
“We have also had our most successful season for fundraising yet, which has significantly eased the burden of trying to fund the running costs of the club. In addition to this, we managed to secure a sponsorship deal from Weir Engineering Services, which has seen us kitted out in excellent fashion and significantly aided our aim of running the club better.”
He concluded that the organisers behind the club had done a good job over the course of the year.
“A lot of hard work has been put in by our committee over the past season and I for one am particularly grateful for this,” he said.
Despite the strides being made of the pitch, Graeme remains concerned with progress on the pitch.
He said: “Although I’m delighted that we have seen the works carried out on the playing fields and made excellent progress in the running of the club, we do realise that we need a competitive team on the pitch.
“We have a loyal group of players in our squad, but we urgently need some new players at Methlick in order to boost our squad both in terms of numbers and quality. In addition to new players we urgently require to appoint a new manager.
“We have dedicated players, a committee of hard working guys, adequate funding and excellent sponsors. All that we need now is a manager and some new players to push the club to success on the pitch.”
