Despite the miserable weather last Sunday the Middleton Trust’s annual 3k Fun and 10k Road Races went ahead as per schedule.
As well as the two aforementioned races the Trust also introduced a 600m race for u-7’s and a 5k one along the banks of the Ythan to the New Academy and back.
Although 472 runners had registered for the four races presumably because of the weather only 386 took part.
Local schoolmaster Jonathan Cordiner won the 10k again in a time of 35min 27sec, some 41 seconds faster than last year.
In second place was Ben Ward, of Aberdeen Metro, in a time of 35min 55sec with Callum McWillaim of Ellon Athletics Club, in third place some 14 seconds later in 36min 9 secs.
First Lady home was Jennifer Murray in a time of 42min 49sec, while Laura Sorrie was in second place in 45min 35secs, closely followed by Helen Jamieson in third place in a time of 46min 5secs.
One of the new races in this year event the 5k was won by Neil Murray , of Garioch Road Runners, in a time of 17min57secs.
He was followed home by David Horne, of Ellon Amateur Athletics, in a time of 18min 1sec. while in third place was Edward Fernandes of Jog Scotland in 18min 5sec.
Isla Burns was the first lady over the line in this event in a time of 21min 6sec.
Second lady home and last years winner of the 3k was local girl Kelly McLeod in 22min27sec with Garioch Road Runners Gemma Simpson in third place in a time of 22min43secs.
The overall winner of the 3k was Calvin Ramsay (11min 18sec), second was Archie McRonald (12min 8sec) and third some 1min and 23secs later was Harris Ingram.
The first three young ladies home in this event were all representing Ellon Athletics Club.
The first of them and the ladies winner was Millie Urquhart (12min 57secs), second was Mhairi Criuickshanks in 13min 27 secs, followed by Shannon McGregor in third in a time of 14min 2sec.
As usual there were the Team Shields competed for with the outcome that both of the 10k ones were won by the same team Newburgh Dunes Running Club and it consisted of Martin Burns, Glen Chalmers and Steve Leaper while both of the 3k Team Shields were also won by Ellon Athletics with a team made up of Millie Urquhart, Mhairi Cruickshanks and Lewis Jack.
