Garioch Amateur Swimming Club members Finley Cousins (11) and Bill Whitcombe (10) were in tremendous form in Inverness at the North District Development Meet on June 14 and 15.
Finley won four gold medals in the 200 free, 400 free, 200 IM and 200 fly, with Bill taking three silvers in the 200 free, 400 free and 200 IM, and gold in the 200 breast. Lauren McPhee (13) also did brilliantly to win gold in the 400 free and bronze in the 200 free, making great PBs in all of her races.
To give an indication as to how well the whole team swam during the week-end, 97 per cent of the 50 swims undertaken were PBs! Some of the swims were amazing, with Cameron Crawford (13) taking 42 seconds off his 400 free time, Phelim McNally (13) taking 32 seconds off his 400 free PB. Gemma Ogg (14) took 31 seconds off her 400IM time, with sister Nicole (12) taking 24 seconds off her 400 free time. Daniel McKenzie (14) swam a full complement of PBs, taking 20 seconds off his 400IM time, while Lauren Stewart (12), Heather McIntosh (14) and Fraser Johnston (14) all swam a majority of PBs throughout the week-end’s racing.
Coaches Mandi Crawford and Rob McPhee were very impressed with the swimmers, both in their behaviour and in their performance. The swimmers were a credit to Garioch as they all got on very well, supported one another and swam amazingly. The club is very proud of their achievements. Thanks go to Mandi and Rob and to the parents who officiated throughout the week-end.
