A young Balmedie swimmer has been recognised for his sporting prowess at one of Robert Gordon University’s most prestigious awards ceremonies.
Stuart McIntosh (18) from Keir Heights, received his Full Blue Award at the RGU: SPORT Awards Ball – sponsored by international energy consultancy, Xodus Group. The awards took place on Friday, April 20, and the keynote speech was delivered by Rugby Union champion, Paul Wallace.
Stuart, a first year computing science student and RGU: SPORT Scholar, was recognised for his performance throughout the year in the pool, a highlight of which saw him compete in the 400m individual medley final of the British Universities and Colleges Sport swimming long course championships in March.
Hosted within the Garthdee-based sport facility, the RGU: SPORT Awards Ball is the highlight of the University’s sporting calendar which recognises and celebrates the achievements of sports clubs and talented individuals.
The awards categories were: Full and Half Blues, Recognition Awards, Fresher of the Year, Sports Person of the Year, Best New Club, Most Improved Club, Presidents Performance, Club of the Year and Team of the Year sponsored by Kukri.
Nicola Scott, President of Sport and Physical Activity at the University, who takes a leading role in the organisation of the annual ball, said: “I’m delighted that Paul appeared as guest-of-honour at this year’s event.
“As an inspirational sportsman who has led a fantastic career on the field, his presence further boosted the excitement and energy on the night.”
Local swimming star, Hannah Miley, who was selected for the second consecutive year as Sports Person of the Year, added: “The Sports Ball is a great opportunity for us to take a moment and look back at the achievements that we as a community have made throughout the year.”
