Garioch Amatuer Swimming Club concluded a busy weekend of competition by sending a team down to the Carnegie Mini met in Dunfermline on November 15, writes a contributor.
The team, sponsored by Inverurie Smile Care, was made up of seven swimmers and despite only sending a small team, ended up in third position overall, which was a tremendous achievement.
Two of the boys managed to secure best for their age group category, Ben Barclay was the best overall 11-year- old, picking up 1st in the 100 IM, 50m breast and 50m free.
Matthew Dick was the best 10-year-old overall, with 1st in 100m IM, and 50m back, breast, fly and free. Ben McLaughlin just missed out on a medal in the nine-year-old category, with a 4th in the competitive 50m free.
Of the girls, Isla Garden swam well in the 7-8 year old category with 1st in the 25m back and 2nd in the 25m breast and free.
Laura Allen and Ceri Gillespie both were unlucky to miss out on medals, but made a strong contribution to the points tally to help Garioch to 3rd overall.
Also in the girls team were Nula Gow, Eilidh McIntosh and Heather Rae who posted some strong PB’s. Thanks go to the coaches Steven Dick and Craig McIntosh and the parent helpers who volunteered to timekeep and officiate.
