Ellon residents will have the chance to share their views on a new and exciting initiative bringing sport, health and wellbeing and the wider community together.
A community consultation evening is being held at 7pm on Wednesday (February 25) at the Ellon Academy Staff Centre for club and group representatives to express their thoughts and ideas on how to shape a Community Sports Hub incorporating Ellon and the Glen-of-Ythan villages of Formartine.
The initiative, which is in partnership with Sportscotland, aims to increase participation and engage the local community in activities which promote good health and wellbeing as well as the more established competitive sports.
Education, learning and leisure committee chair, Councillor Isobel Davidson, said: “The forthcoming opening of the new Ellon Academy Community Campus will create added opportunities for those living within the Ellon area to create a lasting legacy for sport and recreation in the form of the new Ythan Community Sports Hub.
“The hub will be tailored to the needs of the local community and will be a great tool for Sports Clubs and Health/Wellbeing Groups to work together on joint initiatives as well as bouncing ideas off one another.”
Community Councillor and GlenYthan Junior Badminton Club head coach Eddie Middleton said: “All clubs, especially the smaller ones share similar challenges of attracting members, raising finance and finding suitable facilities.
“The aim of the Ythan Community Sports Hub will be to provide support and assistance which can only help improve the services clubs and groups provide to their members and the whole community.”
