HARD as it may be to believe the cricket season is almost upon us. In fact those hardy creatures south of the border have already launched into a new season which will culminate in the age-old struggle for the Ashes.
Even in deepest Middlesex winter has been slow to take its leave, forcing that wily of old campaigners Angus Fraser to attempt to steal a march on his county opponents.
Locating a marquee over the nets area at Lords was certainly imaginative, leading to his county starting its league season with a comprehensive 10-wicket win against Nottinghamshire.
It now remains to be seen if those equally crafty men of Methlick have some cunning plan of their own as they prepare for life in the top flight of North- east cricket.
The Aberdeenshire Grades will surely welcome with open arms an outfit of imagination and enterprise who will grace Grade 1 this season.
Indeed the focus of attention could be on both Lairds, the home of Methlick Cricket Club - MCC to you and me, and of course at the Gordon Park where Ellon Gordon will manfully strive to defend the title they won for the first time in their distinguished 150-year history.
Ellon’s 1st XI open against newly-promoted 2nd St Ronald at Sheddocksley 2 on Saturday, April 27, while in Grade 3 the 2nd X1 are at home to 2nd Stonehaven the same day.
