Ellon Rugby begin a run of home fixtures on Saturday which will have a significant bearing on whether they avoid relegation this season, writes Jack Calvert.
They face Morgan Academy FP RFC, who sit only one place above Ellon at the foot of the Caledonia 1 table.
Directly above them are Hillfoots and then Mackie Academy FP, both of whom Ellon are due to play over the next few weeks.
They then finish the home run against mid-table Highland in March, and with only two points to their name so far, Ellon will need strong showings in all of the fixtures.
Forwards coach Ryan Morrice said: “We just need to go out and concentrate on our own game and see what happens. The Meadows should be ok as long as the weather doesn’t get too bad again.
“It is good to have this run of games and it is still in our own hands at the moment, but we need to start picking up points hopefully starting on Saturday.”
In their previous encounter at the start of the season, Morgan soundly beat Ellon 66-7. Morrice outlined the back row as a key area of strength for the Dundee side.
He said: “They were better all over the pitch, but we were terrible that day. Their back row controlled much of the game so we need to take them on in that area.”
Ellon’s clash away to high-flyers Gordonians on Saturday was cancelled because of frozen pitches at Countesswells.
