Ellon RFC 1st XV will be back in action this weekend when they welcome Deeside to The Meadows.

The Banchory side are struggling in second bottom place in the table, fighting to stay up while Ellon are looking to bounce back from successive defeats to get their title challenge back on track.

Sam Mountain’s side remain top of BT Caldedonia Division 2 North, level on points with Highland 2nd XV, with two games in hand, and two points ahead of third placed Garioch.

“Deeside will be in a buoyant mood for sure, our players will have to be right up for it in order to get anything from the game.” Said Mountain.

“Any threats they pose we have to nullify early and quickly but we posses some high quality players so Deeside will have to stop them also.

“If we lose this weekend it’s a massive blow, but in all honesty it hasn’t even come into our minds.

“We have had some honest and choice words these past few weeks so I expect to see a different side take the field than in the past few games.”

With matches coming up next month against title rivals Moray and Highland 2s, Mountain has stressed the importance of focusing on one game at a time.

“There are still five teams in it who are arguably on better form than us.

“It’s pointless looking ahead and underestimating opponents, we know Highland and Moray will be huge clashes but they wont be very significant if we lose our games in the run up to them, so its about staying focused and being switched on for this Saturday only.”
