Aberdeen Ladies were the home team welcoming Ellon to the Sports Village on Sunday, giving the current league leaders some respect by drafting in some of their national league players to strengthen their squad.

The first ten minutes were very even, both sides looking strong and up for the match, Aberdeen slightly more threatening by way of a couple of short corners but neither side having any clear chances. The home side stepped up the pace and were marginally on top for a spell in a game which was using every inch of the pitch with some great passing play.

Ellon withstood the pressure then caught Aberdeen on the hop with a lightning break forward, Central defender Linzi Mathews surging from defence aided by linda Mitchell covering half the pitch in a couple of crisp passes. Lynne Gordon received a pass and nudged it towards Jenni Urquhart who stepped towards the keeper and finished with a reverse stick shot to put Ellon ahead on 20 minutes.

Ellon again with chances Urquhart picking up a loose free hit from Aberdeen and passing to Lynne Gordon but her shot went wide then Louise Gordon firing a high shot past the post.

Aberdeen pushed once more but Ellon held out well and started using Monica Coyle on the right to receive and distribute some long passes which gained territory quickly giving the defence some respite and the attack some good service.

Aberdeen’s best chance came as they put the visitors under pressure from a couple of short corners with only a great block from Ellon keeper Calaihd Paterson preventing the equaliser.

Seconds before half-time Ellon went two ahead from a free hit just outside the Aberdeen D. Pushed back to Enderle she struck hard towards goal. Lynne Gordon had a half chance which was blocked but Louise Gordon collected the loose ball and struck home from eight yards out.

Three minutes into the second half Ellon gained their third goal from a free hit error from Aberdeen. Hit straight to Lynne Gordon on the edge of the goal area she made a yard of space and fired a rocket shot into the right hand side of the goal.

Ellon were more in control this half launching a succession of attacks down their right wing with just the odd foray forward from Aberdeen and no real chances created. Karen Enderle strode forward from midfield seeking out Lynne Gordon again but her shot was well blocked by Aberdeen keeper Campbell.

Aberdeen replied with a short spell of pressure but Mathews and Carr held firm in the centre aided by midfielders Coyle and Enderle dropping back to support and Gemma Wilson heavily involved in breaking up the Aberdeen attacks down their right.

Carr picked up in midfield and pushed forward towards goal but her shot was wide then from the right hand side Louise Gordon chased in from a free hit. She launched a shot towards the back post where Hogg almost stumbled over the ball before dragging the dragging it home from inside the goal.

Aberdeen were still in the game Paterson being tested with a break forward and pulling off a fine save but Ellon finished on top with two more efforts, Mitchell with a hard reverse stick shot saved and a Louise Gordon pass into the centre hit inches wide by Hogg.
