Ellon continued their 100% start to the season with their eighth win and seventh bonus point at the expense of RAF Lossiemouth.
Ellon won the home game 42-12 with head coach Sam Mountain delighted with the performance and final result.
“RAF’s play was excellent in parts and we did very well defensively to hold them to two tries. We trusted ourselves in defence and stuck to our principles which saw us through and gave us the platform to attack from,” he said.
“It’s massively important to collect bonus points but if for some reason we don’t then so be it; it isn’t the end of the world. As long as we keep winning I don’t care. Can be by one or 100 points, it doesn’t matter to me and the squad.”
Ellon currently sit top of the BT Caledonia League Division 2 North table, with local rivals Garioch just five points behind in second.
Next up for The Meadows side are Deeside RFC at Woodend in Banchory.
The match was rescheduled from last month and will now be played as both a league and BT Caledonia Regional Bowl North double header.
This means a win would not only secure the league points but put Ellon through to the semi-finals of the Bowl.
“We’re looking forward to another local derby against Deeside. I’m sure Bruce (Strachan) will have his lads fired up to play against us and we look forward to the challenge.
“If we again stick to what we have done all season we are confident.”
Following the fixture with Deeside, Ellon will have the rest of the month off, with rugby clubs across the country taking a break during the Autumn Internationals at Murrayfield.
“The guys need a break, only a few clubs now have big squads, and we aren’t one of them,” Mountain added. “It gives us time to rest and any niggles have time to subside.
“The majority of these lads have been going since June so they deserve a rest, but we will be doing some training to keep them sharp, for what we will a massive test of our mettle by going up to Moray on December 2.”
