ELLON were outgunned 29-5 by Aberdeenshire in the Caledonian Regional Cup final played at Woodside, and must now turn their attention to saving their season in a grim battle to avoid relegation from Caley Division 1, writes Jack Calvert.
There will be no time for postmortems as the Meadows side square up to six vital games in their bid to avoid the drop.
Interim head coach Michael Cox said: “We didn’t do ourselves justice in the final, but that’s history. We must now concentrate on getting clear of the bottom two places.
Ellon start the face-saving battle on Saturday with a home game against Hillfoots, followed by matches against St Andrews University (h), Strathmore (a), Aberdeenshire (a), Highland (a) and finally Caithness at home.
The coach added: “None of these games will be easy, particularly the last two against the two top sides in the division, though by that time we might just have done enough to shake off the threat of going down. We have two games in hand on our fellow strugglers Mackie and Highland.”
