ELLON Gordon hauled themselves off the bottom of Grade 1 and in doing so recorded their first win of the season.
The points picked up from the 2nd St Ronalds game on the opening day of the season were won on appeal.
The win against 1st St Ronalds was well merited, as the Ellon team were comprehensive eight wicket winners, boosted by a splendid unbeaten 65 from Stewart Davies who in partnership with Ben Webb helped the visiting side to pass the Kings College sides total of 176 all out.
Inverurie Don Valley were also in the business of breaking away from the relegation zone, easing through in a hard fought low scoring game.
The home total of 112 did not look nearly enough, but they were inspired M Strachan, who claimed four wickets for only two runs to reduce 2nd St Ronald to 98 all out.
The wins for Ellon Gordon and Inverurie Don Valley gives the bottom of the division a new look with St Ronald and Methlick now occupying the basement slots.
The Lairds side were never in the hunt, chasing 210 to win, but to their credit clung on for a draw, reaching 86 for nine before stumps were drawn.
At the top of the division there was also change after ACE Mannofield deposed Bon Accord, easing through by two wickets at the Links.
In Grade 3 there was more misery for Ellon Gordon who were dismissed for 100 at the Gordon Park where only Ken Montgomery displayed any resistance with a battling 21, leaving league leaders 2nd Knightriders the easy task of knocking off the runs required for the loss of one wicket.
This weekend Ellon Gordon travel to Allan Park where they meet title hopefuls Cults who were in fine form with the bat last weekend, racking up 246 for 5 in which Graeme Gillanders hit a sparkling 80.
Ellon seconds travel to Banchory for another test of their resolution.
