Six gymnasts from Garioch Gymnastics Club travelled to Guildford at the weekend to take part in the British Challenge Cup.
The Elite gymnasts, Megan Wright (16 from Stonehaven), Beth McCaw (16 from Kingswells), Kerry Smith (16 from Collieston), Izzy Tolometti (15 from Alford), Daisy Willcocks (14 from Insch) and Erin Fraser (12 from Inverurie) were accompanied by their coaches, Janine Robertson and Emily Bull.
Izzy and Daisy started the competition off on the Saturday morning in the Junior Age Group. They both performed tremendously well with Daisy performing a new Vault for the first time and setting a new personal best score for herself.
Izzy continued her tremendous run of form, she is the current Scottish Junior Champion, going
clean throughout the competition and winning Silver Overall, Silver for Beam and Bronze for Bars.
It was the turn of the Seniors on the Saturday afternoon, Megan, Beth and Kerry all performed exceptionally well with Beth getting a top six finish on Vault.
Erin took to the floor on the Sunday morning in the Espoir section. Our youngest competitor with several new skills being competed for the first time she remained calm and professional gaining herself a massive new personal best score. She finished ninth, top six finish on Asymmetric Bars with a Bronze medal on Floor, a fabulous way to end her competition.
For the Garioch Club, this is a real show of the hard work that has been going on behind the scenes for years. An extremely well qualified, dedicated and passionate team of coaches, working with all levels of gymnasts in the club, has resulted in this and other successes over recent years which will only continue to get better. These are our first medals at British Level and judging by the standard of these gymnasts and the younger ones coming through, they will not be the last.
