Ellon’s miserable start to the new season continued at the weekend when an understrength Meadows side were soundly thrashed 93-0 in Shetland. It was the Lerwick side’s first win of the season.
Ellon forwards’ coach Neil Scott, said: “We had imagined that the game would be called off due to Scotland having their first big game in the World Cup, but in the end had to travel with a seriously weakened squad. In fact we had to borrow two players from Shetland, but were unable to cope out wide in the game.”
Scott is convinced Ellon will learn from their early traumas and go on to survive in Caley 2 North after being relegated from the top league last season.
“It’s not going to be easy after losing so many of our good young players to clubs in the area, but with our excellent youth set up I am sure we will come good, starting with our game against Kinloss Eagles.”
