The scene is set for the most successful ever Pro - Am in the 27 year history of the event at the McDonald Golf Club, Ellon which gets under way at 08.00 on Friday morning.
“All we need is some good weather to make it the perfect day. We have 30 teams participating, including an entry from the club of one armed golfers, giving the day an extra edge. All our efforts look like they are about to pay dividends, thanks to all the hard work that has gone into the planning of the day,’’ said Colin Grant the club’s Pro - Am convener who paid tribute to all those had made major contributions to the organisation of the event.
“First of all I would like to thank the club committee and captain Iain Campbell for having the vision to give the Pro Am the status of big day at the club. Hon. secretary George Ironside has also been a tower of strength, as indeed has my own committee who have left no stone unturned to make the day a success. Club member Neil Williamson did a great day in organising a corporate sponsors day, while the auction of teams last Saturday proved to be another good night for us. Our club professional Sandy Laird Jnr has also been very helpful.” added Grant.
The visionary Grant and his hard working committee can now sit back and to some extent relax, as the highly organised PGA will now take over and oversee the day before the presentation in the evening, though he will be putting up a silent prayer for good weather before he goes to bed on Thursday night.
Members of the public are welcome to come along and watch the cream of young golfers from the Scottish professional game, but should be warned that parking at the club is at a premium.
