The swimming pool at Inverurie is over 45years old and the blocks used by the Garioch Amateur Swimming Club swimmers to dive from were very old and outdated.
It was decided by the GASC that the blocks needed to be replaced.
Member of the club’s management committee and club coach, Steve Dick, along with Mike Whitcombe and several other members, commenced on a task to gain funds to purchase four blocks at a cost of £4.000.
Over a period of several months they inquired with local business and charities to gain the necessary funds needed to achieve their goal.
Early in 2015 GASC gained enough funds to do this and now they have in place four brand new FINA approved blocks.
This will now give all the swimmers in the club the experience of the new blocks which are used at National and International Meets.
All-in-all the swimmers are now able to experience and train using the latest blocks used in the sport.
As a competitive club this will now help to provide an additional benefit to the swimmers.
Club President David Adams said: “The arrival of the new blocks was perfect timing, just before our club “Mix Up” meet of which local clubs in the surrounding area attended.
“We were approached by several coaches from the visiting teams to say how impressed with the blocks they were. “
Mr Adams added: “I’m very pleased with the new blocks and how well they have been received and its a real boost helping to give club swimmers that little extra competitive edge.
“We are extremely thankful to those who donated funds towards the cost of the blocks especially Inverurie Round Table, Morrisons, Garioch Charities Shop and the Hydro Group.”
