Going on recent form, it may seem an impossible task for bottom of the table Ellon Rugby to win this Saturday’s clash with undefeated Caley 1 league leaders Gordonians, writes Jack Calvert.
But head coach Ryan Morrice has not given up on his team yet.
Speaking to the Times this week, Morrice outlined his belief in the squad that has only won one game so far this season.
He said: “Although we got beaten by Strathmore in our last game, we need to take the positives from the match.
“We were the better side for long periods of the game and we just need to start taking our chances.
“It’s going to be a tough task against a good side that will be high on confidence, but the boys will be up for the challenge.”
Despite this positive outlook, numbers at training have fluctuated over the last couple of weeks for Ellon, meaning Morrice will have to rely on a small group of diehard Meadows men to get the team going against Gordonians.
He added: “There were highs and lows. When you don’t have a game on the Saturday you need to build it differently and change things.
“Some things worked, some didn’t. The core group of players understand what we are trying to do so we keep looking forward.”
