Ellon Gordon broke its duck for the season with a comprehensive eight wicket win against Gordonians at the Gordon Park.

However, for the second week running, Methlick came up short in what was a high scoring game, this time at The People Park where Queens Cross - Stoneywood - Dyce were the winners.

The Ellon hero of the day was Ross Wade who took five wickets for 29, including a hat trick, as the visitors tumbled to 70 all out, leaving Ellon the simple task of easing to victory for the loss of only two wickets.

Captain Scott White led the reply with an unbeaten 38, but was given solid support by Tom Proctor who hit a responsible 22 to hand the Gordon Park a welcome first victory of the new season in Grade 1.

It was a much more fraught affair at the Duthie Park where a total of 496 runs was racked up between the two protagonists in a thrilling Grade 2 encounter, though it was Queens Cross Stoneywood - Dyce who had the best of it, scoring 255 for 3 against the Methlick reply of 241 for the loss of nine wickets.

Under the new rules of the competition Methlick lost out whereas last season the game would have been deemed a draw, leaving the Lairds men to contemplate what might have been in a game of cricket which was a credit to both teams.

The home side’s run charge was led by South African Michael Louw who racked up 115, while Matty Reid(110) weighed in with a century of his own.

Not to be out done Methlick produced a centurion of their own in the in form Steve Murphy who ended the day on an unbeaten 105, and a mere 14 runs behind its opponents total of 255.

The eagerly awaited clash between the second teams of Methlick and Ellon Gordon ended in a walk over after the Ellon club scratched for the fourth week in a row.
