The Scottish Open Championships took place from June 24 to 28 at Tolcross, Glasgow.

Garioch Amateur Swimming Club sent a team of 11 swimmers for the five day event. As usual the Garioch team punched well above their weight finishing 10th in the overall classifications.

Orla Adams had a fantastic meeting making four A Finals, 200m IM, 200m Breast, 50m Breast, the B final for the 100m Breast and picking up the Scottish Champion for her 400m IM.

Gavin Haggerwood became Scottish Champion in the 200m IM and had a very strong performance in the B Final of the 100m Fly. Connor Morrison swam fantastically in the S14 category of the 200m IM to become Scottish Champion and made finals for 200m Free and 100m Breast. Anya Slessor continues her amazing form not only qualifying for an Open competition at the age of 11, but posting a new Scottish Age group record for the 50m Fly, which ranks her Number 1 in Britain.

Alastair and Joseph Miley had an epic battle in the 400m IM with Joseph just getting the better of his older brother to finish 6th and 7th, separated by just 0.41 seconds at the end of the race. Alastair also got 8th in the 200m Back A final as well as making the 200m IM B Final, while Joseph made the 400m Free B final and the 200m Back B final.

There were some great performances amongst the other swimmers, Shannon Crawford, Heather McIntosh, Findlay Douglas and Daniel McKenzie, some of whom were competing at this level of event for the first time.

The team are very excited to be going over to Ireland for the first time this year to compete at the Irish Championships between July 15 and 19 in Dublin.
