Ythan CC junior Jason Stronach felt the benefit of all the road races he has ridden this year when he lined up at Midmar last Thursday for the latest round of the Aberdeen and District road race series.
With the race taking place over two 21 mile loops, the climbing sections were always going to be crucial but Stronach took advantage of the inclines by launching an attack along with teammate Andy Duncan and Robert Brown (Sandy Wallace Cycles).
The trio gained a brief advantage but the peloton were not in the mood to allow anyone to escape and they were reeled in. Duncan’s race ended a short time later after a mechanical, whilst the remaining peloton tackled the uphill finish with Stronach finishing in the pack behind race winner Lewis Grieve.
Last Sunday saw Stronach racing in Paisley in the WOSCA road race where he finished second Junior and 20th overall. Back home the traditional Coffee Pot 50-mile time trial took place on roads around Mearns and Deeside.
Ythan had several riders taking part with Mike Giles the fastest Ellon rider with a time of 2 hours 5minutes and 49 seconds.
In Glasgow and inside the cauldron of noise that has been the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Ythan’s Fiona Duncan has produced some great efforts in a Scottish jersey along with her race partner Laura Cluxton placing fifth in both the Sprint and Kilometre Time Trial.
