A cycling group in the north-east participated in its first national event this year at the weekend.
The 2017 cycling season in Scotland is now officially under way, and the first sights of the Ythan Cycling Club colours in action were seen in Edinburgh and Stirling.
The club’s Fraser Gault and Daniel Kain were made their season debuts at Ingliston for the Edinburgh RC youth circuit. Gault and Kain competed in the Youth B, under-14s category.
With Kain having a successful winter on the track at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, where he regularly won or placed highly in his age group events, and Gault having also visited the track over the winter, hopes were high at the club that both would carry their 2016 form in to this year’s season.
Neither disappointed with the first race seeing Gault in second and Kain in third whilst they followed this up in race two with Gault in third and Kain in fifth.
This ensured third and fourth overall respectively for the Ythan duo.
Sunday saw the Corrieri Classic 10 mile TT at Stirling where Ythan’s Mike Giles and Carol Middleton lined up at the ever-popular early season test.
Giles showed some promising form for March with a time of 24m 01s whilst Middleton’s 26m 10s was also one of her best rides t this time of year.
Ythan founded in 1987 after the Ellon District Cycle Club disbanded.
