Ythan CC's Karolyn Brown.

The championship event was a standard distance race of a 10k run, a 42k TT on the bike followed by final 5k run.

It always offers a challenging course, with its hilly run. but Brown matched her 2015 performance by securing a silver medal in the veteran category and eighth overall female.

Brown’s performance included an improvement of three minutes on her 2015 time and while happy with her efforts, there is no doubt that the Ellon athlete is hunting a victory in the coming weeks and months.

One of Ythan’s standout youth road riders, Fraser Gault, tried out his mountain bike skills at the weekend when he took part in the first round of the SXC Series at Laggan, an event which was also his first proper mountain bike race.

Riding the full course, which included a long climb to the top followed by a challenging single track decent, Gault took on the course with the same approach he takes to racing on the road and overcame rock gardens, drop offs and table tops and berms to finish in eighth place.
