The seeds of the new cycling and duathlon season started to grow last weekend with Ythan CCs youth riders heading for Ingliston for the first youth circuit races of the season, writes Malcolm Grant.
However, it was duathlete Karolyn Brown who again stole the headlines after she finished sixth overall at the ITU Sprint World Championship Qualifier at Oulton Park race track in Cheshire.
Brown also won her category group adding another impressive early-season result to her 2016 palmares.
At Ingliston, Fraser Gault finished 15th in the Youth B race in what was his first race in his new age category, having dominated the Youth C ranks for the past few years.
Taking on the mantle in the Youth C category was William Cooper who finished 14th while Elliot Rowe won the Youth D race.
Elliot’s sister Melanie rounded off another good day for the Ythan QL (Quines and Loons) by matching her older brother’s result when she won the Youth E girls section.
